Accidentally Crossing the Tycoon.
Chapter 48
Audrey’s POV:
When I realized just how intimately I was positioned with Caspar, embarrassment hit me like a freight train.
I reflexively pushed away from him, but didn’t think through the fact that this would leave me without support, sending me plunging back into the water.
Water rushed into my nose and mouth, panic washing over me instantly.
Before I could even struggle, those strong arms hauled me back up again.
Caspar looked at me and raised an eyebrow p>
“Looks like your swimming skills are even worse than your driving skills,” he said with a hint of mockery in his voice.
For the sake of survival, I ignored his sarcasm and clung desperately to his shoulders.
I could feel the tension in his muscles, but right now my survival instincts trumped any embarrassment.
Please… please get me to shore,” I managed to say, trying to control my fear. “ I really can’t swim p>
My squirming and struggling in his arms as I tried to adjust my position to keep some distance between our bodies seemed to have an unintended effect.
I became aware of a certain… physiological response that I definitely sho… have been noticing.
My face immediately burst into flames. I didn’t know whether to pretend I hadn’t noticed or address the elephant in the room.
“Stop moving,” Caspar warned in a low voice, his tone suddenly strained.
I immediately froze, scared to move a muscle, stuck in this awkward position with my heart hammering like it was trying to escape my chest.
to ease the awkwardness, explaining quietly. “You don’t need to feel embarrassed. We’re both adults here. I “It’s just a normal physiological response,” I understand, I won’t laugh at you, really, it’s totally fine p>
Caspar’s expression darkened instantly as he cut me off: “ Say one more word and I’m throwing you back in the water. ”
I immediately shut my mouth, not daring to make another sound.
I nervously looked toward the shore. Edward and Noah were standing at the pool’s edge, Noah’s little face full of worry.
With one powerful motion, Caspar half–carried, half–pushed me to the edge.
The moment I grabbed the pool’s rim, he quickly released me and swam to the far end of the pool, as if desperate to put distance between us.
Edward reached out to help me out of the water.
My clothes were completely soaked, clinging uncomfortably to my body.
“Edward, take Miss Lane to get changed, Caspar called from the other end of the pool, his voice controlled.

Then he dove deep into the pool and began doing vigorous breaststroke laps, as if trying to burn off excess energy.
Edward handed me over to a female housekeeper who gave me a large towel and a garment bag.
“Mr. Thornton has arranged a change of clothes for you. Please follow me to the changing room p>
In the changing room, I opened the garment bag and was surprised to find an elegant black dress inside, the size looking just right.
“This is…?” I looked questioningly at the housekeeper.
“This is backup clothing specially prepared by Mr. Thornton,‘ the housekeeper explained. “He said you’d worn something similar before and it should fit p>
I recalled the charity gala where I had indeed worn a black dress. I hadn’t expected Caspar to notice such details, let alone remember my size.
Suddenly, I felt that beneath that cold exterior, Caspar seemed to have an unexpectedly thoughtful side.
When I emerged after changing, I found that Noah and Caspar had already changed out of their swimwear and were dressed to go out.
Caspar wore a deep blue casual shirt, while Noah was dressed like a little gentleman.
“Mrs. Dorothy has invited you all for dinner,” Edward explained. “She says it’s been too long since she’s seen Noah p>
“I won’t intrude then,” I smiled, preparing to take my leave. “Thank you for your hospitality p>
“Come with us,” Caspar said calmly–not a request, but a statement.
I hesitated: “This is a family dinner, I wouldn’t be appropriate p>
“If Miss Lane doesn’t go, I’m not going either,” Noah suddenly spoke up, his tone resolute. His eyes locked onto mine, making it impossible to refuse.
I reluctantly nodded and followed along, remembering that Dorothy had seemed like a sweet, easy–going old lady when I’d met her before.
At least compared to Caspar’s inscrutable attitude, spending time with her should be more relaxed.
When we arrived at Dorothy’s residence, we could hear harmonious conversation coming from inside even before we reached the door.
One voice sounded particularly familiar, making my heart sink.
As we pushed open the door, my premonition was confirmed–Sienna was sitting elegantly in the living room, delicately holding a teacup while chatting
with Dorothy.
When Sienna looked up and our eyes met, the surprise in her gaze was impossible to hide.
“Caspar, Noah, and Audrey! You’re finally here,” Dorothy greeted us warmly. “Come, sit down p>
Dorothy noticed that Sienna kept staring at me, her eyes darting back and forth between us.
She keenly picked up on the subtle tension crackling in the air.
‘Do you two know each other?” she asked curiously, her eyes sparkling with intrigue,
