I pushed Jason away, even though my arms felt like they were made of lead. My whole body trembled, my breathing uneven, and my vision was still dull. I couldn’t just leave Alexander there… not when he was outnumbered. Not when I had no idea what the hell was really happening.
“Faye, you can’t even stand properly,” Jason snapped, his tone sharp with frustration. “You’re not helping anyone like this. We need to go–now p>
“No.” My voice came out hoarse but steady enough to make him pause. “I’m not leaving him p>
Jason’s jaw clenched. “You think staying here is going to change anything? Patrick’s with him. You’re not the only one who cares whether he lives or dies p>
I narrowed my eyes at him. “I don’t trust Patrick p>
He exhaled hard, running a hand through his hair. “You don’t trust anyone anymore, Faye p>
“Because people lie,” I shot back. “Because people pretend to be loyal until it matters most… and then they turn on you. I don’t know what’s going on out there, but Alexander’s fighting a pack by himself. That’s not something I’m walking away from p>
Jason stared at me like I’d completely lost my mind. “You’re half–dead, Faye. You can barely stay on your feet, and you want to run back into a battlefield? Why? Because of him p>
His tone cut deep.
“Yes, because of him!” I yelled, the sound cracking. “He’s out there, surrounded, and you’re telling me to just walk away like it’s nothing p>
Jason’s expression softened, but only slightly. “You don’t make sense, you know that? You’d rather die for someone who’s perfectly fine and always ready to run headfirst into chaos like it’s a damn game… always driven by rage and his stupid pride p>
I froze. “You really think that’s who he is p>
Jason folded his arms, his face hard again. “Tell me I’m wrong p>
I wanted to… I really wanted to. But words didn’t come at first–just a bitter laugh that didn’t sound like mine. “You think Alexander’s reckless?” I asked quietly. “You think he runs into chaos because he enjoys it p>

Jason didn’t answer, and that silence was enough to keep me going.

He looked away, his jaw tightening.
Jason drew a sharp breath. “Look at you defending him… You must really love him p>
“That’s none of your business,” I said.
“I get it, you still hate me, and I deserve it.” he muttered after a moment. “And you think you’re the only one who’s ever cared about someone. Anyway, Alexander isn’t alone, Faye. I made sure of that p>
That got my attention. I frowned, trying to make sense of his words. “What do you mean p>
Jason turned back to me, his eyes serious now. “You really think I’d foolishly walk into a place like this without backup? I took precautions… even though your perfect mate kicked against it,” he said, irritated. “There are Silver Hollow soldiers in the territory right now. They’re not just backups; they’re here to show Draco the consequences of attacking Silver Hollow.” The air seemed to thicken around me.I wasn’t sure if that made things better or worse.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” I said quietly.
Jason scoffed. “I shouldn’t have? You think we should just keep letting people like Draco come for us and do nothing p>
“This is going to turn into a m e. There are innocent people here,” I whispered.
He didn’t deny it.
“I have to go back.” I tried to move past him, to go back toward where the fighting was, but my legs gave out halfway. Jason caught me before I hit the ground.
“You’re not going anywhere, Alexander is fine,” he said firmly.
“You don’t know that,” I said.
He didn’t answer.

And every instinct in me screamed that Alexander was out there… bleeding, furious, and alone. The thought of the vision I had settled in my head.
