But the truth hit me in the gut with every strike I absorbed. Faye was right–fair wasn’t going to save me. Fair wasn’t going to win this. Marcus was relentless, vicious, and utterly without conscience. And I could feel the strain in my jaw, the tension coiling in my muscles, the heat behind my eyes.
I kept circling, keeping my distance, deflecting and dodging. But every move I made felt slower than it should. My breathing grew heavier, controlled only by force of will. I caught a glimpse of Faye at the edge of the ring, her hands clenched, eyes wide. Even from this distance, I felt her worry radiate, her heart pounding in sync with my own.

Marcus tried to respond–lunging back, dodging, countering. But it was too late. He hadn’t expected this. He couldn’t adapt fast enough. Every strike he tried to set up was met with precision and raw ferocity. Every maneuver he had planned crumbled under the sheer force of Adrian.
The ground shook beneath us, dust and sparks scattering with each impact. Claws tore through the earth, fur bristled, and snarls cut through the air. He couldn’t match my speed no matter how hard he tried.
I felt a surge of power unlike any I had ever known in battle. It was terrifying, but at the same time, intoxicating. For the first time, Adrian was contained enough to act with purpose rather than mindless rage. He was hungry, but only for Marcus’s blood.
