Seraphina’s eyes lit up. She saw Skye standing near a waiter, holding an empty glass. In Seraphina’s twisted logic, Skye—cut off by Liam—must be working the event. Seraphina marched over, dragging Zheng with her.

Skye turned slowly.

The conversation had attracted attention. The wives of the investors—women who could smell desperation like sharks smell blood—turned to watch. They saw the cheap sequins. They saw Manager Zheng sweating. They saw Seraphina trying to bully the elegant woman in blue.
