She walked back into the ballroom. Liam was cornered by a group of investors, looking bored but relieved to be seen. When he saw Skye, annoyance flashed in his eyes.
Skye walked right up to him. She didn’t whisper. She held her phone up, the screen bright.
“Darling,” she said, her voice sweet but carrying, “I forgot to show you this photo Beatrice sent me p>
Liam looked at the screen.
It wasn’t from Beatrice. It was a screenshot of a bank transfer.
Kensington Corporate Account → Miller Family Debt Consolidation → $50,000. Dated yesterday.
It was embezzlement. Pure and simple.
Liam’s face drained of color.
“What is this?” he hissed.
“Evidence,” Skye whispered, leaning in close as if to kiss his cheek. “Call off the customs hold on the Quinn shipment. Now p>

“Liam,” Skye warned. “If I AirDrop this to the room right now, the investors see it. Beatrice sees it. The ‘reconciled couple’ narrative dies, and you go to jail for corporate theft p>
Liam looked around the room. He was trapped. Again.
He pulled out his phone. He dialed a number.
“It’s Kensington. Cancel the tip. Yes, I said cancel it. It was a mistake p>
He hung up and glared at Skye. “Happy p>
“Ecstatic,” Skye beamed. She patted his cheek. “You’re learning p>
Liam left the gala early. He couldn’t stand another minute of Skye’s victory lap.

He found Seraphina in the new apartment. She was sitting on a box, looking around the small, beige room with disdain.

“It’s temporary,” Liam lied. “But guess what? It’s right next to Skye’s penthouse. We’re going to live here, right under her nose. We’re going to make her life miserable p>

High above, in the main tower, Skye walked onto the balcony of her mother’s penthouse. She wasn’t living here—she was still at The Spire—but she had come to check on the property.
Her phone buzzed.
Alistair: Your husband just made a very interesting purchase. Unit 2B in the Annex.
Skye looked down at the complex below. She saw the lights on in the small service building that sat in the shadow of the main tower.
