He sidelined her. He dismissed the theft as a mental break. It saved face for him, but it branded Seraphina as unstable.
“But I am here to address the rumors about my marriage,” Liam continued.
He raised his left hand. He was wearing his wedding band. He had put it back on this morning.

In a safe house on the outskirts of the city—a sterile, high-end apartment Liam had rented—Seraphina watched the broadcast too.
She was shaking with rage.
“Medical help?” she screamed at the TV. “Stress-induced confusion? He’s calling me crazy p>
She had been bailed out, yes. But Liam hadn’t come for her. His lawyer had dropped her here and told her to stay out of sight. Her credit cards were declined this morning when she tried to order food.

Liam pushed her away. He didn’t use force, just a cold, dismissive shove.
“You’re cut off, Seraphina,” he said. “The apartment is paid for through the end of the month. After that, you’re on your own p>
“What?” Seraphina gasped. “But… I love you! I did everything for you p>
“You stole a dress,” Liam said. “You lied. You embarrassed me. You are a liability p>
He turned to leave.
“No!” Seraphina grabbed his arm. “My mother… the loan sharks… they’re calling me. I need money, Liam p>
“Not my problem,” Liam said. He pulled his arm free and walked out the door.
