“Well, you’re really something. All of us tried for years to get Grandpa to quit, and managed it right after coming home. That’s pretty remarkable,” Ethan said, looking at her with genuine admiration.
“What was it like for you at the Macdonald’s before?” he asked curiously.
“It was… okay, I suppose. Aside from Edward, who showed me some kindness, the others… Well, it doesn’t matter anymore,” Arabella replied. She didn’t care about them now, but bringing it up still left a faint sting.
“So you weren’t happy there all those years?” Ethan sensed from her tone that life had likely been difficult.
“It’s in the past. Let’s not talk about them anymore,” Arabella said, not wanting to dwell on people who no longer mattered.
Seeing she didn’t wish to revisit old memories, Ethan reassured her, “It’s alright. You have us now. No one will ever make you unhappy again p>
But inwardly, he was thinking. What kind of family were the Macdonalds to have treated his sister this way? He made a mental note to look into it later.
“By the way, Ethan, do you know Matthew? Is he into collecting antiques too?” Arabella suddenly thought of Matthew and wondered why such a busy CEO would appear at Hilde’s Auction.
“Matthew? I’ve never heard he collects. Why do you ask?” Ethan looked at her curiously.
“I thought I saw him at Hilde’s today. Just wondering,” she replied.
“Oh, you might’ve been mistaken. He’s usually swamped–probably doesn’t have time for auctions,” Ethan said with certainty.
So it seemed Matthew wasn’t a collector. Then why was he there?
Suddenly, she remembered the invitation Andy had delivered to Suite Seven. A thought struck her–Could he have been there to meet Marla, just as Andy had guessed?
No, that couldn’t be it. Someone as busy as him must have had another reason.

“Ethan, do you know what projects Matthew’s company has been working on lately?” she asked.
“Him… Arabella, why are you so interested in his business?” Ethan caught on and studied her face.
“I’m treating Robert, and I hear about Matthew often. After a while, you can’t help but curious,” Arabella offered, grasping for a plausible excuse.

“So you heard about that too. Not yet–the paperwork is still processing. I plan to visit when I have time,” Arabella told him.
“Alright. If you need any help, just let me know,” Ethan said warmly.

As he spoke, Arabella pulled the car over.
Thinking they’d arrived, Ethan moved to open his door.
“Ethan, why don’t you wait here and relax? I’ll go check and be right back,” Arabella said, stepping out.

“Then take a walk around here. Please don’t come with me,” Arabella said, hoping to leave him behind rather than bring him to see Edward.
“No way. I need to make sure you’re safe,” Ethan insisted.
“Which house is it?” He started walking ahead.
Out of options, Arabella reluctantly let him follow.
Soon, they approached the gate of a spacious villa.
As they entered the Macdonald property, Ethan quickly took in the sizable but visibly dated house ahead.
It really is worn down. No wonder Arabella is unhappy. A place like this is beneath her.
Just then, a maid cleaning nearby noticed Arabella and spoke up. “Ms. Macdonald, you’re back p>
“Is my brother in his room?” Arabella asked.
“Yes. Shall I show you the way p>
“No need. Please carry on with your work,” Arabella said, heading straight inside.
Soon, they reached Edward’s room. Arabella knocked and entered.
“Edward, I’m here,” she said gently.
Seeing Arabella, Edward’s face broke into a warm, long–awaited smile.
