“Matthew isn’t here right now. I’m asking what you think,” Robert said, his gaze steady on her.
“Well, I… I certainly wouldn’t be opposed. It’s just that Matthew…” Naomi’s voice trailed off, and she left the sentence hanging.
Seeing Naomi hesitate, Robert pressed, “What about Matthew? Has he been upsetting you again?”
“No, not exactly. It’s just…” She hesitated, glanced at Ruby beside her, and seemed to wrestle internally with her thoughts. She wasn’t sure if she should tell Robert about Matthew’s previous visit to Hamilton Manor to call off their engagement.
Ruby, standing beside her, gave a subtle, encouraging nudge, signaling she should speak up.
Bolstered, Naomi’s expression firmed. “Matthew. he came to Hamilton Manor some time ago. To formally end our engagement.”
“End the engagement?!” Robert’s eyes instantly sharpened.
“When did this happen? Why wasn’t I informed Robert demanded, his tone turning stern.
“You… you didn’t know? I assumed Matthew would have discussed it with you.”
“He did no such thing,” Robert replied, his own surprise evident.
“Oh no! I only mentioned it because I thought you were already aware. If I’d known you weren’t… Matthew will be so upset with me for telling you.” A look of genuine fear crossed Naomi’s face.
Suppressing his rising anger, Robert reassured her. “Don’t be afraid. He won’t hear it from me. Now, tell me everything that happened, in detail.”
“Alright.” Complying, Naomi recounted the entire event–Matthew’s arrival at Hamilton Manor, his declaration, and the aftermath.
“That boy! Carrying on here as if everything is the, while going behind my back to pull a stunt like this!” Robert was visibly furious after laring the story. “Cough, cough…”
“Robert, please, don’t get worked up. Your health is the most important thing,” Naomi said, her expression shifting to one of serious concer as she saw him cough.
“Naomi, you’ve been wronged in all of this. I will deal with that boy on your behalf,” Robert said, his voice calming slightly as he tried to confort her.

“It’s been some time now, and the initial sting has faded. Please, don’t confront Matthew over this. I’ll be fine,” Naomi said, genuinely worried that Robert’s interference would only fuel Matthew’s resentment toward her.
“Very well. Let’s set that aside for now.
“Didn’t your grandfather give that boy a proper talking–to on my behalf?” Robert asked, a slight frown forming as he looked at Naomi.
“My grandfather considered the long–standing relationship between our families. He didn’t say anything too severe. He simply stated that Matthew couldn’t unilaterally make such a decision. If the Stewart family wished to dissolve the engagement, it would require a discussion between the elders,” Naomi replied, her tone measured and calm.
“Hmm. Ryan is a reasonable and gracious man. When you return, please give your grandfather my regards. Tell him that Matthew’s earlier attempt to end the engagement is null and void–I do not recognize it. Once I am well enough to be discharged, I will personally bring Matthew to your home to apologize,” Robert stated firmly, his gaze serious.
“Of course, Robert. I’ll visit Hamilton Manor as soon as I get back and make sure to pass your message along to my grandfather,” Naomi said, a look of unmistakable relief and pleasure washing over her face.
She had been right to listen to Ruby and visit the hospital today. Robert’s favor was still with her, and he had just decisively handled the major obstacle of the broken engagement. With his support, her path back to Matthew was clear again.
Robert nodded slightly.

In the quiet study room at the academy, Lucas finished his theoretical explanations for Arabella. He looked at her with clear admiration “You absorb information remarkably fast. I can’t believe you’ve grasped all this foundational theory in just a few days. Truly impressive.
“If there’s anything at all you’re unsure about, now is the time to ask.”
“No, I think I’ve got it all,” Arabella replied earnestly.
Lucas shook his head slightly, a smile playing on his lips. “You really are exceptional. In all my time teaching here, I’ve never encountered student who picks up concepts as quickly as you do. You’re in a league of your own.
“You’ve mastered the theory for this module, so we can conclude here for today.”
“Hold on,” Arabella interjected. “Even with the theory down, there’s still so much practical knowledge I lack. Why don’t we continue?” she suggested, looking at Lucas expectantly.

“I didn’t expect such a relentless drive to learn. Alright then, I’ll keep going.”
“But,” he glanced at his watch, “it’s already past noon. How about we get some lunch first? We can pick up where we left off afterward.”
Arabella checked the time herself. He was right; it was lunchtime. “Alright. Let’s go eat.”
“What are you in the mood for? I know all the best spots in the area,” Lucas offered with a friendly smile.
“There must be a dining hall here on campus, right? Let’s go check it out,” Arabella said, her tone surprisingly enthusiastic.
“You want to eat in the dining hall?” Lucas looked at her, genuinely surprised.
“Yes. Is there a problem with that?” Arabella aske, noting his puzzled expression.
“No problem, per se. It’s just… the food there is standard institutional fare. I should take you to a proper restaurant off–campus,” Lucas insisted. After all, it was their first meal together outside of lessons. He wanted it to be somewhere nicer, more memorable.
“Restaurants outside aren’t that unique. I want to see what the food is like at Doranor City’s premier flight academy,” she stated simply. Since she had the time today, she might as well get the full campus experience.
