“Don’t worry, I will. We’re leaving now.” With that, Freya and Carter left the Macdonald residence together.
Shortly after Freya’s departure, Harper set down her fork, her appetite gone. She picked her phone, scrolled to Dylan’s contact, and tapped the call button.
She hadn’t been able to reach him for days, and the worry had been gnawing at her.
The phone rang several times before it was finally picked up.
“Dylan, where are you? I’ve been calling for days! I was so worried!” Harper’s voice was thick with relief and anxiety.
“Don’t worry. My family found a private physician to treat me. Are you okay?” Dylan’s voice came through, noticeably weaker than usual.
“I’m fine. Don’t think about me. I’m just so glad to hear your voice. Are you at home or still at the doctor’s place?” Harper asked, her concern evident.
“Still at the physician’s clinic for now. I probably won’t be home for a while. Don’t miss me too much. The second I’m cleared to move, I’ll come find you.” Even in his diminished state, Dylan tried to sound charming.
“Don’t you dare rush it! You focus on healing completely, understand? Just hearing you’re alright is enough for me right now,” Harper replied tenderly.
“Mmm. I don’t look my best at the moment, so let’s skip the video calls for now. We’ll talk again in a few days when I’m feeling more like myself,” Dylan explained.
“That’s fine, I understand completely. Just get better. My parents have already gone to confront Arabella. I’ll update you as soon as I know anything.
“Listen to the doctor and don’t stress about me. Im perfectly fine here at home. I’ll come see you as soon as you’re back,” Harper added warmly.
“Okay.”
“Get some rest then. I’ll let you go. Bye.” After saying goodbye, Harper reluctantly ended the call.
Now that she knew Dylan was safe and receiving care, the heavy anxiety that had plagued her for days finally eased. She hadn’t been sleeping well at all.
Feeling significantly lighter, Harper got up from the table and headed upstairs. She was going

At Cloudrise Manor, Ethan, as had become the routine, wheeled Arabella downstairs to the sun–filled breakfast nook.
Seeing them approach, Alfred immediately stood up to clear space at the table for Arabe chair.
“Eager to help this morning, aren’t we?” Ethan remarked with a faint, knowing smile.
“Thanks, Alfred,” Arabella said, smiling up at her brother.
“Anytime. What are you craving for breakfast?” Alfred’s typically stern demeanor softened, his eyes warm as he looked at her.
“Just some cereal and milk, please,” Arabella replied.
“Coming right up,” Alfred said with a nod.
After setting a bowl and glass in front of Arabella, Alfred turned to Ethan with a slight frown. “When did you go get her? You didn’t wake me.”
“Are we really competing over this? I’ve been the one helping Arabella downstairs every morning. If you want to be useful, find another chore. This one’s taken,” Ethan shot back without yielding an inch.
“Defensive much? I was just asking,” Alfred retorted sarcastically.
Ethan simply rolled his eyes and took his usual seat to Arabella’s left. Alfred naturally settled into the chair on her right.
“Arabella, you should have something more substantial than that. Here, try some of this frittata,” Ethan suggested, noticing her light choice.
“He’s right. You need proper fuel for the day. Have some of this sausage as well,” Alfred added, sliding a small plate toward her.
Suddenly being fussed over by both brothers, Arabella felt a wave of amused affection. “Alright, alright. Thank you both. I’ll try a bit of everything,” she said with a laugh.
Jonathan and Florence watched the scene from the head of the table, their expressions one of quiet contentment.
Under the concerted attention of Ethan and Alfred, Arabella ended up having a surprisingly hearty breakfast.

After sitting back for a moment, Arabella spoke up, “I’m all set. Ethan, could you take me to the hospital for my wound care appointment?”
“Of course,” Ethan announced, standing up to take hold of her wheelchair.
Alfred was quicker, stepping forward to grasp the handles first. “I’ll come with you. I’ve got nothing pressing at home.”
“It’s just a quick clinic visit. We don’t need a three–person escort. You just got back; you should relax at home,” Ethan said to Alfred.
“He’s right, Alfred. You should rest. Ethan and I will be back before you know it,” Arabella added gently.
“I’m not tired. Besides, I could stand to have a doctor check my own vitals while we’re there,” Alfred insisted, inventing a reason on the spot.
“Enough standing around. Let’s go,” Alfred said, already wheeling Arabella toward the foyer.
“Drive carefully, boys,” Florence called after them, her tone equally caring toward all three.
“We will,” Ethan replied.
When they reached the driveway, Ethan tossed the car keys to Alfred. “You’re driving.”
He then carefully helped Arabella into the spacious back seat of the SUV. He wasn’t in the mood to drive today anyway, and if someone volunteered to be the chauffeur, he was happy to accept.
Alfred shot Ethan an annoyed look but got into the driver’s seat without further argument.
“Arabella, are you comfortable back there?” Alfred asked, turning to check on her.
“I’m perfectly fine. Let’s head to Kindwell,” Arabella confirmed.
“Got it. I know the way,” Alfred said, just as Ethan slid into the back seat beside Arabella.
