“Oh, I see,” Alfred replied, not pressing further. He simply reminded Arabella, “Make sure you get some rest early once you’re finished.”
“Okay, will do,” Arabella agreed.
“Alright, I’ll leave you to it.” With that, Alfred left her room.
Watching him go, a faint smile touched Arabella’s eyes. It felt nice to be cared for.
The next morning dawned clear and bright.
After breakfast, Alfred drove Arabella to Horizon Corp.
“What time do you think you’ll wrap up? I can wait,” Alfred offered.
“Alfred, you should go handle your own things. I’ll just call a rideshare to the flight school when I’m done here.” She wanted to use her time efficiently and get her pilot’s license as soon as possible, so she could later devote all her attention to work.
“That’s too much hassle. Let me drive you,” Alfred insisted.
Arabella shook her head. “Really, it’s fine. Besides, I’m not sure how long this will take.”
She didn’t want Alfred wasting his day waiting around for her either.
“Alright then,” he conceded, seeing she was determined.
“I’m heading in. Thanks, Alfred.” With a wave, she entered the corporate building.
She made her way smoothly to Matthew’s office.
“Mr. Stewart,” Arabella greeted as she walked in.
“Dr. Hamilton.” Matthew looked slightly surprised. What brought her here?
Setting the report on his desk, Arabella got straight to the point. “Take a look at this, please. I’m planning to bid on the project.”
Matthew reviewed the document carefully before nodding. “The proposal seems solid. What do you need from me?”
“If you have no objections, then nothing,” she said calmly.
She had come mainly for his approval. No objections worked just fine for her.
Matthew paused. “Then why come at all?”
If she didn’t need anything from him, was she just here to inform him?
“To get your opinion. If you’re on board, I’ll handle the rest,” Arabella replied, a note of practicality in her tone.
Matthew’s expression tightened. That was it?
“Walk me through your specific plan,” he said, leaning back in his chair with a commanding air.

Arabella shrugged slightly. “Haven’t made one yet.”
“You don’t even have a plan, and you expect my approval?” Matthew’s voice cooled.
Arabella raised a brow. “You already said the proposal looked good. Are you backtracking now?”
This guy could shift moods so suddenly. So difficult.

“I said the proposal seems good. But I also need to know what makes you capable of actually securing the bid,” Matthew stated flatly.
Suppressing an eye roll, Arabella replied, “I’ll finalize it and send it over later.”
“As soon as possible,” Matthew instructed coolly.
“Slavedriver,” she muttered under her breath before responding aloud, “Got it.”
Just as she turned to leave, her phone rang.
“Lucas, what’s up?”
“You’re coming to pick me up?”
“It’s fine, I can manage… You’re already on your way to my place?!”
“In that case, come to Horizon Corp. I’m here.”
“Okay, see you soon.”
Hanging up, she strode out of the office.
Matthew’s gaze deepened, becoming unreadable.
Lucas again? Were she and Lucas that close now? Why were they always together? And Lucas was picking her up from here?
“Andy, come here for a moment,” Matthew pressed the intercom.
“Yes, sir”
Andy arrived promptly.
“Mr. Stewart, what can I do for you?”
“Find out where Dr Hamilton and Lucas are headed,” Matthew ordered
Andy hesitated “Lucas?”
A cold giance from Matthew made Andy straighten up “Right away” He huitted off
A while later, Andy returned. “Dr. Hamilton went to the flight academy it looks like she has a training session scheduled
Matthew’s eyes shifted to the window, his expression inscrutable

After parking, Lucas said, “I adjusted your schedule. You won’t be training with those two anymore.”
“Thanks,” Arabella said.
“No need to thank me.” Lucas smiled. “Come on, let’s head in.”
“Mm–hmm.” Getting out, they walked toward the flight training field.
Without Naomi and Ruby around, Arabella found the session much smoother. She felt completely in control.
“Let’s take a break. I booked a longer slot today so you could get more practice in,” Lucas suggested.
“Sounds good.” Arabella brought the aircraft down.
Lucas fetched some drinks from the hydration station. “Here you go.”
“Thanks.” She took one, opened it, and took a sip.
Lucas sat beside her, a smile in his eyes. “Pretty clever move on your part. It’s so much quieter today.”
Without Ruby’s constant chatter, everything felt more peaceful.
“I just want to get my license as quickly as possible, without any distractions,” Arabella said quietly.
Her time was valuable, and she had no patience for thoughtless interruptions.
Hearing this, Lucas grew thoughtful. “Finish the exams soon, huh…”
“Yeah, the sooner I wrap this up, the sooner I can focus on other things,” she said with a light laugh.
The idea of her not coming here anymore left Lucas feeling unexpectedly empty inside.
