He was in quite a good mood now. Regardless of what was truly happening between the two of them, any interaction was a positive sign to him.
“Robert!” Arabella tried one last time.
But Robert simply didn’t give her the chance to explain and strode away cheerfully.
Watching him leave in such high spirits, Arabella shook her head with a sigh.
“There’s clearly no clearing this up now,” she muttered, feeling a bit troubled.
“If it can’t be cleared up, then leave it be,” Matthew said calmly.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Arabella was startled. How could they just leave it like that?
Matthew explained, “The more you try to explain right now, the more my grandfather will read into it. It’s better to say nothing. Over time, the moment will pass.”
“Oh, I see.” Arabella breathed a small sigh of relief. They would just have to let it fade naturally.
Matthew looked at her. “Are you alright after that stumble?”
“I’m fine. Thank you, Mr. Stewart.” If it weren’t for Matthew, she might have gotten hurt.
The only unexpected part was Robert walking in and getting the wrong idea.
“Good. Let’s continue, then,” Matthew said, his expression returning to its usual composed state.
Arabella nodded. “Alright.”
Pushing thoughts of Robert aside, Arabella and Matthew returned to refining the proposal….
“Finally, it’s done!” Arabella looked over the finished document, her eyes bright with satisfaction.
Matthew called for Andy. “Andy, come to the office.”
“Right away, sir,” Andy replied.
A moment later, Andy arrived.
Matthew handed him the proposal. “Regarding the bid, assemble a dedicated team to manage it.”
“Yes, sir,” Andy answered respectfully.
“Mr. Stewart, since everything is settled, I’ll take my leave now,” Arabella said
Matthew paused briefly. “It’s lunchtime. Would you like to have lunch together?”
“I should probably get home,” Arabella said, eager to leave promptly.
Seeing this, Matthew didn’t press further.

After Arabella had left, Andy asked, “Where would you like to have lunch, sir? I’ll make a reservation.”
“That won’t be necessary. Have something delivered here,” Matthew said, returning to his chair.
Andy was momentarily surprised but quickly turned to handle the order.
“He said he was going out, and now he’s not?” Andy mumbled to himself, though he didn’t dare ask aloud.
Leaning back in his chair, Matthew gazed at the spot where Arabella had been sitting, his expression turning pensive…

After returning home, Arabella found the living room empty and went straight upstairs to her room.
She changed into comfortable loungewear and lay down on the bed.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She answered casually, “Hello?”
“There’s a bit of a snag with Edward’s paperwork,” Colton’s voice came through, sounding concerned.
Arabella sat up quickly. “What happened?”
“The certificate was supposed to be issued today, but when my contact went to collect it, they were told the documentation was insufficient–that the qualifications didn’t meet the standard,” Colton explained.
“How is that possible?” Arabella’s expression darkened.
Colton said, “Something’s off. I’m still trying to pinpoint exactly what went wrong.”
“Find out as soon as you can,” Arabella instructed.
“Okay, I’ll update you as soon as I know more,” Colton agreed before hanging up.
Arabella frowned, turning the situation over in her mind. Something felt deliberately obstructed.
Colton was thorough; it couldn’t be an issue with the documents themselves. The approval process was also straightforward. So what had happened?
“Knock, knock, knock.”
“Arabella, lunch is ready,” Florence called from the hallway.
“Coming,” Arabella replied, getting up to open the door.
Florence looked at her with concern. “Paul mentioned you came home and went straight to your room Are you tired?”
“Not really, just wrapping up some work,” Arabella explained.
Taking her hand, Florence said, “That’s alright. Come on down for lunch first”
“Mm,” Arabella agreed, following her mother downstairs.
Lunch was a quiet affair, with only Jonathan, Florence, and Arabella at the table.

“Arabella, is your car still in the shop?” Jonathan asked conversationally.
“Oh, not quite done yet,” Arabella replied.

Jonathan suggested, “Perhaps you should consider getting another one. That way, when one is being serviced, you’ll still have transportation.”
Arabella immediately shook her head. “Dad, that’s really not necessary. The car Ethan got me is still in the garage. One is plenty for
me.”
“But it’s inconvenient when yours is in the shop,” Jonathan fretted, worried about her getting around.
Arabella explained, “It’s fine. Alfred can always drive me if I need.”
Ever since she’d returned, her family had gifted her so much–more than she could possibly use.
“You say that, but you came back by yourself today,” Florence said, sounding a little sorry for her.
“That’s because I didn’t call him. I was at Mr. Stewart’s office finalizing the proposal and just took a cab back afterward,” Arabella explained.
“You were at Matthew’s place!” Florence sounded surprised.
Arabella suddenly wondered if she should have mentioned that.
“So you were with Matthew all morning? Aside from work, did you two… talk about anything else?” Florence asked, her face alight with curiosity.
Arabella sighed inwardly, rubbing her temple. “Mom, it was strictly business. Really.”
“Alright, strictly business,” Florence said, her face breaking into a fond, knowing smile.
