Chapter 336 A Tense Standoff
Lucas shook his head, correcting her, “This really shouldn’t be classified as medicine.”
It was the nourishing broth she had personally prepared.
Even the underlying herbal aroma, which he normally disliked, seemed pleasant to him now!

“Alright, you finish eating. I’ll go check if there are any discharge procedures left to complete,” Arabella said, turning to leave.
“No need, I already asked the nurse to handle all the paperwork for me,” Lucas called out to stop her.
“Okay then, I’ll help you pack your things. We can leave once you’re done.” With that, Arabella began gathering his few belongings from around the room.
Lucas hadn’t brought much to the hospital, and she was finished quickly.
Arabella picked up the small duffel bag. “I’ll take this to the car first and then come back for you.”
Lucas smiled and shook his head. “Don’t bother coming back up. I can manage the walk down myself.”
He was feeling perfectly fine now and didn’t want her making unnecessary trips and tiring herself out.
Arabella glanced at him. “Alright then, I’ll just wait here, and we can go down together.”
“Sure,” Lucas replied happily, returning to his meal.
Soon, he had eaten every last spoonful.
Setting the empty container down, Lucas sighed with a hint of wistfulness. “If staying in the hospital meant I got meals like this, I’d almost be tempted to extend my stay.”
“If you’d like to become a permanent resident, I’m sure I could arrange that.” A cool, familiar voice interjected.
Both of them looked toward the doorway to see Matthew walking into the room.
“Mr. Stewart!” Arabella was surprised. What was he doing here?
Lucas, on the other hand, immediately looked displeased. “You? Why are you here?”
Nothing good ever seemed to happen when this guy showed up!
“Just passing by,” Matthew replied, his tone casual.
“Visiting your friend again, Mr. Stewart?” Arabella asked, remembering he had mentioned a friend was hospitalized
Matthew raised a brow and gave Arabella a slight nod. “That’s right.”
“Well, you should get going to see them then. We’re about to check out,” Lucas said, moving as if to usher Arabella past Matthew
and out the door.
He really didn’t want to share the same space with this man. Every time something inconvenient happened, Lucas couldn’t help but suspect Matthew had a hand in it, simply because he seemed to dislike him.

“Already did,” Matthew stated, his expression unreadable.

“Since you’ve already visited, Mr. Stewart, you’re free to leave now,” Lucas said, his desire for Matthew to depart obvious.
Matthew simply nodded and turned his gaze to Arabella. “Ready to go?”
“Huh?” Arabella looked puzzled.
Lucas stepped slightly in front of her, glaring at Matthew. “We’ll be going our own way. She’s not leaving with you.”
Looking past Lucas, Matthew’s eyes locked with Arabella’s. “You’re not leaving?”
“We are leaving,” Arabella clarified.
Then she nudged Lucas aside, looking at him questioningly. “What else would we be waiting for?”
“I… Nothing, I guess,” Lucas sighed, defeated. He just hadn’t wanted to walk out with Matthew.
“Then let’s go,” Arabella said, already heading for the door.
Matthew glanced at Lucas before following her out.
Lucas glared at Matthew’s retreating back, feeling thoroughly irritated. Just as I thought, he’s doing this on purpose!
Once outside the hospital’s main entrance, Lucas couldn’t resist a jab. “Mr. Stewart, you always seem to pop up around your business partner. Is it a lack of trust?”
‘Are you trying to stir up drama?” Matthew shot back, one eyebrow arched.
Lucas shrugged with feigned innocence. “Just calling it as I see it.”
Matthew’s eyes turned icy, his presence suddenly imposing. “The dynamics of our partnership are none of your concern.”
‘Oh really?” Lucas choked back his irritation. “Mind your phrasing. You and Arabella are business partners. What’s with the ‘our‘ business? You make it sound like you’re especially close.”
‘Do you have a problem with that?” Matthew’s aura turned frosty.
Lucas swallowed involuntarily but kept his chin up. “Am I wrong?”
Matthew narrowed his eyes, his tone cutting. “The nature of my relationship with her is not your business.”
Just as the tension between the two men seemed ready to holl over, Arabella called out, thoroughly exasperated, “If you both have this much energy to spare, by all means, stay here and continue. I’m leaving.”
What was wrong with these two? Every single time they met, it devolved into this!
Were they just fundamentally incompatible?
“No, wait, I’m coming too,” Lucas said, his expression softening instantly
Arabella couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Then get in the car.”
“Alright,” Lucas agreed, shooting a final, smug look at Matthew before turning to get into the passenger seat.

“Mr. Stewart, since Lucas is being discharged, I’m taking him home. I’ll be on my way now,” Arabella said, offering a polite farewell.
An even deeper sense of frustration settled within Matthew, his expression darkening further.
Before Arabella could get into the driver’s seat, her phone rang.
Answering it, she said, “Chloe, what’s up?”
A pause as she listened, her expression shifting. “What did you say?”
“Okay, I understand. I’ll head over right now.”
Hanging up, she looked at Lucas with a conflicted expression. “There’s an urgent situation at the company. I’ll call a car service to take you home instead.”
The matter sounded critical, and driving him home first would take too much time.
“Then I’ll just go with you,” Lucas said, not wanting to pass up a chance to spend more time with her.
“You?” Arabella frowned, hesitating.
Lucas watched her carefully. “Would it be inconvenient?”
Arabella shook her head. “No, it’s not that. It’s just… if you come, I won’t have a spare moment to look after you.”
The company issue sounded messy, and she’d be completely focused on resolving it.
“You’ve just been discharged. Going straight home to rest is the more appropriate course of action.” Matthew’s calm voice interjected once more.
“I’m perfectly fine. That’s why they released me,” Lucas argued back, unconvinced.
