Without another second’s hesitation, Dylan scrambled to his feet and hurried over to Matthew, his words tumbling out in a panicked rush. “Mr. Stewart, I was blind–I didn’t recognize you. Seeing how terrified Dylan was, and hearing him call the man “Mr. Stewart“, Harper put two and two together.
Back at the auction, when they had gone upstairs hoping to meet Matthew, they had been trying to get close to Matthew himself–they just hadn’t managed to see him then.

Seeing that Harper’s attitude was finally somewhat acceptable, Arabella felt a slight sense of satisfaction.
