Edward smiled gently. “Arabella, you really don’t have to fuss over me like this. I can handle things myself, you know.”

“I know you can,” Arabella said reassuringly. “But getting around this area isn’t the easiest without a car. I have one, so it’s no trouble.” She didn’t want him to feel like a burden.
Hearing this, Edward could only agree. “Alright then. I’ll text you later to figure out a time.”
“That’s more like it,” Arabella said with a pleased smile.
“If you’re free, why don’t you stay for lunch?” Edward suggested.
Arabella nodded. “Sure, it’s been a while since we shared a meal.”
With nothing else pressing for the day, she was happy to stay.
Edward was delighted and immediately went to ask the housekeeper to prepare lunch.
Freya was seething after Edward hung up on her.
“See, Calvin? Something’s wrong with Edward lately. He contradicts me at every turn.”
Calvin gave a low, dark chuckle. “This might actually work in our favor.”
“How?” Freya asked, confused.
“She took Edward with her, which means she trusts him. Maybe we can use Edward to get to that little bitch.” He’d been waiting for an opening, but the girl was rarely alone.
Freya’s eyes lit with understanding. “Perfect. Edward just agreed to visit you. Why don’t you use that chance to deal with her once and for all?”
“We’ll need a careful plan,” Calvin said, his gaze turning cold.
“Good, but the sooner the better. Just thinking about how comfortable she is makes my blood boil.” She wished she could finish the job herself.
“I’ll handle it,” Calvin assured her.
“By the way, how are things with Harper and Dylan?” Freya inquired.
“Don’t worry. Harper visits Dylan every day, saying all the right things about standing by him. Dylan’s spirits have lifted, and the Johnstons are treating Harper even better now,” Calvin explained.
“Good. She’s finally using her head,” Freya said with satisfaction. “As long as we keep the Johnstons on our side and they’re willing to back the Clark family, I’m sure that big contract you’re negotiating will come through.”
Once that happened, the Clark family would secure their place among Doranor City’s elite.
“You’re right. I’ll have Harper drop a few hints with the Johnstons.”

Arabella returned to Cloudrise Manor to find the whole family relaxed and chatting in the living room.
“Mom, Dad, Frank, Ethan, Alfred,” she greeted them before settling onto the sofa.
“How’s Edward doing?” Alfred asked.
“He’s doing well,” Arabella replied, then asked. “What were you all talking about? Everyone seems in a good mood.”
“We were just finalizing some details for Naomi’s birthday party,” Florence said. “Then we got to talking about your birthday–what kind of celebration we should plan, since it’s your first one with us.”
“My birthday is months away. Isn’t it a bit early to be planning?” Arabella said, both touched and amused.
“We were just brainstorming ideas,” Florence explained with a warm smile.
“We can decide the details closer to the time,” Arabella said, not wanting to dampen their enthusiasm. Truthfully, just spending the day with family would be more than enough for her.
“It’s getting late. Where’s Naomi?” Ethan wondered, glancing at the clock.
Florence explained, “She said she went over to Ruby’s and might be back later. She told us not to wait for her for dinner.”
“Why has she been spending so much time at Ruby’s lately?” Ethan frowned. Though the two were close, it was usually Ruby tagging along after Naomi, not the other way around.
‘She’s at that age. Maybe she needs someone to talk to. It’s good she has a friend like Ruby to confide in. Everyone needs a close friend,” Florence said, not thinking much of it.
“If she’s not joining us, let’s go ahead and eat,” Frank said, turning to his parents. “Dad, Mom, shall we have dinner?”
“Yes, let’s eat,” Jonathan agreed, standing up. Florence followed, and everyone moved toward the dining room.
As they walked, Ethan reminded Arabella, “By the way, progress at the new research facility has been smooth. When you get a chance, see if Matthew wants to come by for a site visit. As an investor, he should be kept in the loop.”
Arabella nodded. “Alright, I’ll ask him.”
If he was interested, she’d arrange it. If not, that was fine too.
After dinner, Arabella headed upstairs to her room.
Back in her room, her phone buzzed. Seeing it was Colton, she answered. “What’s up?”
“There’s a client offering a significant fee for Aletta’s services. The case file is… unusual. I think you’ll find it interesting. I’m sending the details over now,” Colton said, getting straight to the point.
