Arabella shook her head with a soft, helpless laugh–the bias of family, she supposed. In their eyes, she could probably do no
wrong.
“Come on, the food’s here. Let’s eat,” Ethan urged.
Seeing the table practically covered with plates, Arabella appealed for help. “Ethan, you have to eat a lot too, or I’ll never finish all
this.”
Ethan smiled fondly. “Alright, you start. Whatever you can’t finish, I’ll take care of it.”
‘Thanks, Ethan.” Arabella smiled and began serving dishes to him. “Try this, it’s really good.”
‘And this one…”
‘Here, Ethan, you should have some of this…”
Amid the easy conversation, the two finished their meal, paid the bill, and left the restaurant.
After exiting the restaurant’s lower level, they entered a long, dimly lit corridor that connected to the mall’s main concourse.
Nalking side by side, they suddenly noticed several large, muscular men up ahead, blocking their path.
‘You Arabella?” the one in front asked, his eyes fixed on her.
Arabella frowned. “Who wants to know?”
“We’re here to teach you a lesson,” the leader stated, stepping right into her personal space and looking down at her. “Because you pissed off the wrong person.”
Facing the imposing figure, Arabella showed no fear, only a cold, scornful look. “Harper. Brave enough to send others but too scared to show your own face?”
The only people who would address her so familiarly on the street were likely from the Macdonald circle. And the one she might actually run into here was probably Harper.
“Getting scared now, Arabella? What if it is me?” Harper stepped out from behind a pillar with a mocking laugh.
Noticing the person beside her, Arabella’s gaze turned even frostier.
“Dylan!” He was here too.
“Hmph. If you’re scared, get on your knees and beg. I might make your death quick,” Dylan growled through clenched teeth. “Beg from you? In your dreams,” Arabella retorted, her sarcastic gaze making him look foolish.
Dylan’s temper flared instantly, his hand trembling as he pointed at her. “You’re about to die and you still have the nerve to act tough!”
Arabella glanced at his hand and raised an eyebrow slightly “Surprised your hand recovered. Guess you got lucky.”

If it weren’t for her, his hand wouldn’t have been shattered. His family had pulled every string, found some underground medic, and barely managed to patch it back together. But it would never have full function again–it was practically useless now.
The thought fueled his rage. “Beat her until she can’t stand! Just leave her alive–I want to take my time making her pay!”
“Yes, sir!” The hired thugs immediately rushed toward Arabella.
Ethan pulled Arabella back, shielding her behind him, and landed a solid kick on the first attacker, sending him sprawling.
“Arabella, stay behind me,” Ethan said, taking on all five men himself, determined to keep her safe.
Unfortunately, Dylan had hired professional fighters. Though Ethan had some training, holding off so many at once was difficult. He took several hard blows but didn’t yield an inch, his body a shield for Arabella.
“Ugh!” A kick to his stomach sent Ethan stumbling back several steps.
“Ethan!” Arabella’s heart clenched, her eyes stinging.
“Hmph, I knew what you were capable of. That’s why I came prepared,” Dylan said, looking at Arabella with a smug, almost delirious grin. “Arabella, you’re not getting away today!”
He could already picture her begging for mercy under his hands.
“Arabella, I’ll cover you. When you see an opening, run for the exit,” Ethan whispered, grimacing in pain. He could handle a beating, but he absolutely could not let Arabella fall into Dylan’s clutches.
“Just hold on a little longer, Ethan. I already called the police,” Arabella said, steadying him. She wouldn’t run and leave him alone. If they could just hold out a bit longer, help would arrive.
“Don’t even dream about it. I won’t give you the chance,” Dylan spat viciously. “Hurry up and finish this, or you’re all dead!”
“Yes, sir!” The thugs charged again.
Knowing Ethan couldn’t hold them off alone, Arabella gritted her teeth, swung her heavy backpack, and smashed it directly into one man’s face.
Passive defense wasn’t her style.
The scene descended into chaos again, but then a figure flashed past and sent two thugs flying with powerful kicks.
As Ethan caught his breath, he realized it was Alfred who had arrived.
“Alfred! You’re here!” Ethan felt a surge of relief.
“Get Arabella to safety!” Alfred didn’t waste time with questions, diving straight into the fray. Whoever was attacking his siblings was going down first; explanations could come later.
With Alfred joining the fight, the momentum shifted quickly.
Fighting back–to–back, Ethan and Alfred made quick work of the remaining attackers, soon leaving them all groaning on the ground.

“Babe!” Harper panicked, clutching Dylan’s sleeve. “What do we do now?!”
“We get out of here!” Dylan said, all thoughts of revenge gone, replaced by pure self–preservation.
“Okay!” Harper agreed, ready to flee with him.
But as they turned to run, they found their escape route already cut off.
