Chapter 280 Turning the Tables
“Where do you think you’re going?” Arabella crossed her arms, watching the pair with cold amusement.
She’d anticipated they’d try to bolt when the fight turned, so she’d positioned herself to cut off their escape.
“Get out of my way!” Dylan snarled.
“Are you actually that stupid?” she replied. There was no chance she was moving.
Dylan’s eyes turned furious. “Then don’t blame me if I get physical.”
Arabella let out a short, derisive laugh. As if he’d been a gentleman up to now.
“Looking for more trouble?” Alfred stepped forward and delivered a sharp kick that sent Dylan sprawling to the floor.
“Babe!” Harper gasped, throwing herself beside him. “Are you okay?!”
Dylan groaned in pain, glaring up at Alfred. “You dare kick me?!”
Alfred walked over and planted his foot firmly on Dylan’s shoulder, applying pressure. “Why wouldn’t I?”
“Y–you… get off him!” Harper cried out, terrified and furious.
Arabella approached and looked down at Dylan. “Go on. Explain how you were planning to ‘get physical“.”
Here he was, pinned like a stray dog, yet still posturing.
“Arabella, if you do this, my parents will make you pay!” Dylan shouted, humiliated and enraged.
Alfred increased the pressure under his foot, making Dylan cry out in pain. “Ahh! Let go!”
“Get away from him, get away!” Harper wailed, too scared to actually push Alfred.

Arabella crouched down to meet Dylan’s eye level. “You should save your energy to figure out how your parents are going to get you out of this mess.”
“It was a fight. You think they can keep me locked up forever?” Dylan spat viciously. “When I get out, your life is over.”
He swore to himself he’d repay today’s humiliation tenfold.
Arabella’s lips curled in disdain. She gestured toward the thugs still groaning on the ground. “With this crew? You really think this will be written off as a simple assault?”
Then she took out her phone and played a recording.
“Get on your knees and beg. I might make your death quick…”
It was Dylan’s own voice from minutes before.
“You recorded that?!” Dylan’s face went pale.
“What do you think? Does that sound like a threat constituting attempted murder? And would that make our response self-

defense?” Arabella’s tone was loaded with meaning.
“You’re so lowdown!” Harper shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Arabella.

“Call it what you want. With people like you, it pays to come prepared.” Arabella checked her watch pointedly. “The police should be here any minute.”
“Wait!” Dylan panicked. If this was framed as attempted murder, he was done for.
Arabella feigned ignorance. “What?”
“I–I was just trying to scare you! I didn’t actually mean it! You can’t charge me with that.” Dylan’s voice rose with desperation.
“I have the evidence right here,” Arabella said, waving her phone.
Dylan lunged weakly for it, but Arabella stood and stepped back smoothly.
Alfred shifted his weight, making Dylan gasp in pain. “Don’t move.”
“Arabella, stop hurting him! You’re going to kill him!” Harper was beside herself, tears streaming.
“I’m not touching him,” Arabella said with an innocent shrug.
“He is!” Harper glared at Alfred.
Alfred held his hands up. “I didn’t hit him.”
He’d only kicked him… and was currently standing on him.
Harper was so furious she felt lightheaded. “Arabella, are you torturing him like this because you’re still jealous? We’re in love! Can’t you stand to see us happy?”
Arabella almost laughed out loud at the absurdity.
“Harper, I thought you were just delusional. Turns out you’re genuinely stupid.” Honestly, she hoped they would stay together forever–they were perfectly suited–so they wouldn’t inflict themselves on anyone else.
“You…” Harper sputtered, then rallied with a fierce retort. “Don’t get too arrogant! If anything happens to Dylan, the Johnston family will come after you, and so will my parents!”
“You think I’m afraid of them?” The Johnstons and the already ruined Macdonalds weren’t even a blip on her radar.
“What about Edward, then? Or my uncle?” Harper lifted her chin threateningly. “Edward agreed to meet with my uncle. Family still matters to him, and when he finds out, he won’t let you get away with this either.”
Arabella’s reply was calm. “You said ‘when he finds out! That moment isn’t now.”
“You…” Harper hadn’t expected Arabella to be so unmoved, even by the prospect of Edward’s disapproval. She deflated slightly
“Arabella, stop bullying Harper. I admit I’m at your mercy today. Just tell me what you want.” Dylan finally gritted out the words, his pride clearly wounded.
Arabella raised a brow, mildly surprised. “Finally using your head, I see.”

“I know how you operate.” After pursuing her for years, he had some understanding of her methods. If Arabella didn’t have an ulterior motive, she wouldn’t be drawing this out.
Arabella pretended to consider for a moment. “Let’s see… Harper does have a point. I don’t want to make things difficult for Edward either.”
“So you’ve come to your senses! Now let us go!” Harper’s eyes lit up with sudden hope.
