“Your method of comfort is certainly… distinctive,” Arabella said with a wry smile, then added coolly. “She doesn’t bother me, anyway, so there’s no need for you to speak on her behalf.”
“Arabella, I’m sorry. Maybe I’m just not expressing myself well. I’ll be more thoughtful in the future,” Naomi could only continue to apologize.
“Naomi has already apologized. Can’t you just drop it?” Ruby spoke up in defense, acting as though Naomi had been deeply wronged.
Arabella raised a brow and looked at her. “If you can’t think before you speak, then say less. This entire situation started with you.”
“That’s right, Ruby. Be mindful of your words from now on. If you genuinely don’t know how to speak appropriately, you can always stay quiet,” Alfred warned, his tone sharp.
“Alfred-” Ruby’s eyes reddened with indignation. She was about to retort when Naomi stopped her.
“Alfred, I’ll make sure Ruby is more careful in the future,” Naomi said quickly.
At the moment, everyone’s support was with Arabella. The more they said, the more they would misstep, so silence was the safer
course.
Ruby wasn’t convinced and muttered under her breath, “Naomi, it’s obvious they’re taking sides. Why won’t you let me speak?”
“If you already see that, then stop talking. Otherwise, you’ll only make it worse and pull me down with you. If this continues, I won’t be able to cover for you anymore,” Naomi warned quietly.
Ruby clenched her jaw in frustration but finally fell silent.
After shooting a resentful glare toward Arabella, she thought to herself. Just wait. I’ll bide my time for now, but you’ll get what’s coming.
With Ruby quiet, the tension at the table eased slightly.
“I’m finished. I’ll be heading upstairs,” Arabella said, setting her napkin down and rising.
Ruby stood up as well. “I’m done too. Enjoy the rest of your meal.”
Watching Arabella ascend the stairs, Ruby followed closely behind.
“Where is Ruby going?” Alfred asked, puzzled.
Naomi explained, “Probably to my room.”
Hearing that, Alfred paid it no further mind.
Upstairs, Arabella was just about to enter her room when Ruby called out to her.
“Wait a minute,” Ruby said, stepping directly into her path.

“What do you want?” Arabella frowned. She truly had no patience for Ruby’s senseless provocations.
Ruby lifted her chin, glaring at Arabella with an accusatory expression. “Do you have feelings for Lucas?”

“Excuse me?” Arabella was completely taken aback. She hadn’t expected Ruby to confront her with something like this.
“Don’t act innocent. You’re always around Lucas. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to!” Ruby spat through gritted teeth.
Arabella looked at Ruby with pure disdain, as though she were an utter fool. “Don’t assume everyone is like you, with nothing but romantic intrigues on their mind.”
She was genuinely fed up. Why did people keep asking her these ridiculous questions?
“Hmph, if you don’t like him, then why are you constantly involved with him?” Ruby clearly didn’t believe her.
Arabella replied coldly, “If your brain isn’t functioning, go get it checked.”
She and Lucas, involved? Was Ruby out of her mind?
Not wanting to waste another second, Arabella turned to enter her room.
Ruby blocked the doorway, her voice low and fierce. “I’m warning you–stay away from Lucas. Stop clinging to him.”
“Ruby, it seems you no longer wish to be welcome in this house!” Alfred’s voice rang out, thick with anger.
Turning, they saw Alfred and Naomi rounding the corner of the staircase.
“Alfred!” Ruby’s heart jumped, and her face paled.
Walking up to the two of them, Alfred said coldly, “Is it because your father has been overseas and no one’s been around to rein you in that you’ve grown bold enough to act out like this?”
Ruby clenched her teeth. “Alfred, I’m not wrong! Don’t let her manipulative act fool you!”
“Enough! What nonsense are you spewing?” Alfred was genuinely furious. Ruby had always been a bit spoiled, but she’d never been this willfully obtuse.
“You just don’t see her for what she is. To get close to Mr. Stewart, she used her connection to Robert. And now at the flight academy, she’s all tangled up with Lucas. She’s not the innocent person she pretends to be,” Ruby blurted out in her frustration.
“Ruby!” Naomi’s face went white with alarm, silently pleading with her to stop.
“Naomi, ever since she came back, look how much we’ve had to endure. Since things have come to this, we might as well say it all,” Ruby said defiantly. The words were already out there was no taking them back now.
“You’ve had to endure things?” Alfred let out a disbelieving laugh and turned to Naomi. “Do you feel the same way?”
“Alfred, I don’t,” Naomi said quickly, pulling Ruby back. “Please, just stop talking.”
Even if she harbored such thoughts, she would never dare voice them aloud. What was wrong with Ruby today? Had she completely lost her senses?
Arabella watched the two of them with detached amusement, her gaze finally settling on Ruby’s face with a touch of mockery.

“Alfred, Arabella, Ruby just speaks without thinking. She’s jealous because you and Lucas get along; that’s why she lost her temper. I’ll talk to her properly later.” Naomi had no choice but to distance herself. At this point, she couldn’t defend Ruby any further.
“Naomi!” Ruby looked at her, feeling utterly betrayed. After all, she’d done it for both of them.
