“Naomi, look how much Aunt Florence cares about Arabella,” Ruby said, unable to hide her envy.
“Arabella really doesn’t look well. It’s only natural Mom would be concerned,” Naomi replied, her tone understanding.
“You’re just too kind–that’s why she can take advantage of you,” Ruby muttered in frustration.
Naomi glanced at Ruby. “Mind your words. Don’t let anyone overhear.”
Ruby looked around nervously before lowering her voice. “I just think it’s unfair to you.”
‘Fairness isn’t really the point.” Even as she said this, a shadow of resignation flickered across Naomi’s expression.
‘I’m really worried about you,” Ruby sighed.
Just then, Naomi’s phone rang.
‘What is it?”
‘What did you say?!”
‘Alright, I’m on my way.”
After hanging up, Naomi’s face had paled slightly.
‘What happened?” Ruby asked, concerned.
‘There’s an issue at the studio. I need to go over now,” Naomi said, standing up quickly and heading for the door.
Ruby hurried after her. “Naomi, wait! I’ll come with you.”
Florence emerged from the kitchen carrying a tray.
“Huh? Where did they go?” She was puzzled not to see Naomi and Ruby.
After a quick glance around confirmed they were gone, Florence murmured, “Did those two go out again?”
Without dwelling on it, Florence carried the tray upstairs.
“Arabella.” Florence knocked on the bedroom door.
“Mom,” Arabella came to open it.
Florence entered with the tray. “The kitchen prepared some broth. You really do look tired, so I brought a bowl up for you first
“Thank you, Mom” Arabella felt a warm gratitude.
“It’s nothing” Florence set the tray down “Go on, try it”
Arabella took the bowl, had a sip, and nodded. “It’s good”
“I’m glad you like it. I’ll have them make it for you more often,” Florence smiled, her eyes hill of maternal fondness.

Arabella held the bowl and finished all the broth.
Watching her drink it all, the smile in Florence’s eyes deepened.
Taking the empty bowl, Florence reminded her, “Rest for a while. I’ll call you when dinner is ready.”
“Okay,” Arabella agreed with a smile.
Florence lovingly patted Arabella’s head, then took the tray and left.
Arabella reached over and turned on her computer to begin working.

“Naomi, why did you rush over here in such a hurry? What’s going on?” Ruby asked, worried.
She had never seen Naomi look so tense before.
“A design proposal I was pitching–the client just informed me they’ve chosen someone else. My submission was rejected,” Naomi said, her voice tinged with defeat.
Ruby looked confused. “Isn’t that just part of the business? Maybe they preferred another designer’s concept.”
When this had happened before, Naomi hadn’t seemed this distressed.
“You don’t understand,” Naomi sighed. “This project belongs to Matthew.”
“Mr. Stewart’s project!” Ruby exclaimed in surprise. “Then you should talk to him! Find out what he wants and design it for him.
“No wonder you’re upset. You’re right there, so how did you still lose the bid?” Ruby shook her head, puzzled.
Naomi said bitterly, “I can’t approach him. This project wasn’t publicly listed, so very few people know it’s his. Even though I know, I have to pretend I don’t.”
If Matthew discovered she knew the project details, he would likely distance himself from her even further.
“Oh, I see.” Ruby frowned. “Do you know who won the project instead?”
“Not yet,” Naomi said, glancing toward her office door. “Levi is looking into it.”
Just then, Levi Stone hurried in. “Ms. Hamilton, I have the information.”
“It’s a freelance designer named Tylin. Mr. Stewart invited her to his office today, watched her work in real time, and awarded her the project on the spot,” Levi reported.
“Tylin!” Naomi’s face darkened. “It’s actually her!”
“You know who she is?” Ruby was puzzled, Naomi had never mentioned this person before.
Naomi shook her head. “I don’t know her personally, but she’s quite renowned in the industry right now.”
“Really? How come I’ve never heard of her?” Ruby was even more confused.

Even though she wasn’t in the design world, she picked up bits from being around Naomi.

“This person is… unconventional. She doesn’t work for a firm–just operates a private studio. She accepts commissions solely through social media, and no one even knows what she looks like. But her design work is on a level most can only aspire to,” Naomi explained.
She had always been curious about this elusive designer but had never had a chance to encounter her.
“Well, if that’s the case, then losing to her isn’t really something to be ashamed of, right?” Ruby shrugged. If even Naomi spoke of her with such respect, she must be genuinely exceptional.
Naomi glanced at Levi. “You may go.”
Levi left the office.
“This person never makes public appearances, and yet Matthew managed to bring her into his office. It seems he truly values her talent. It’s just a shame… I’ve missed another opportunity to connect with him.” Naomi’s face paled slightly once more.
