“Mm, Arabella prepared some medicine for her. She should recover fully within three days,” Florence replied.

Naomi was taken aback. “Arabella prepared the medicine?”

“Yes, we couldn’t get through to Aletta, so we had to ask Arabella for help,” Florence explained.

“I see,” Naomi said, forcing a stiff smile.

“Mrs. Hamilton, the gowns and jewelry have arrived,” Paul announced as he entered the room.

Florence smiled brightly. “That was quick. I expected them closer to evening.”

“The atelier said they expedited the finishing to allow more time for any necessary fittings,” Paul said. Several staff members followed, carrying large boxes. They placed them on the coffee table and carefully opened them.

‘Perfect timing, Naomi is home too,” Florence said cheerfully. “These are the evening gowns for the birthday gala, prepared for all of you. Go try them on and see if anything needs to be altered.”

‘Arabella gets one too?” A mix of complex emotions churned within Naomi.

This was her birthday celebration–why did Arabella need a new gown?

‘Of course, Arabella will be attending as well,” Florence said with a smile, gently urging them. “Go on, try them on. Let me see how hey look.”

‘Alright,” Arabella agreed, picking up one of the garment bags to change.

‘Mom, I’ll go try mine on too,” Naomi said, selecting another bag before heading off.

Though resentment simmered inside, she couldn’t let it show.

Soon, both women returned, dressed in their new gowns.

‘You both look absolutely stunning. The styles suit you perfectly,” Florence said, immensely pleased at first sight.

Arabella also nodded in agreement. “The fit is excellent. Thank you, Mom.”

“No thanks needed, as long as you’re happy with it,” Florence said, turning to Naomi. “And you, Naomi? How does it feel?”

“It fits well. Just what I’d expect from your taste, Mom,” Naomi replied obediently.

Florence gestured toward the open boxes on the table. “Now for the jewelry sets. Go ahead and choose”

“I’d like this set,” Naomi said immediately, reaching for the one that appeared more ornate and expensive.

Arabella glanced at it. “Actually, I think the other set would complement your gown better.” 

“Hmm, I tend to agree,” Florence said, nodding thoughtfully.

Naomi clenched her teeth, a forced smile stretching her lips. “Arabella, you’ve never attended this caliber of event before. You might not be familiar with how to accessorize for them.”

With that, Haomi firmly picked up the more lavish set. “This type is more appropriate for me.”

Florence frowned slightly, feeling conflicted.

To be honest, both sets looked lovely to her, but she inherently trusted Arabella’s taste and felt her suggestion was more harmonious. Yet, with Naomi putting it that way….

“It’s fine. As long as you’re happy with it,” Arabella said, not pressing the issue, and accepted the jewelry box Naomi had handed

faint curve of satisfaction touched Naomi’s lips–she had finally come out on top against Arabella, for once.

“Mom, I really love the gifts you chose. I’ll wear them to the event,” Arabella said to Florence, her eyes warm and sincere.

Florence felt reassured. “Good, darling. That’s what matters.”

“Mom, I’ll go back upstairs now,” Arabella said, having no desire to engage further with Naomi, and decided to return to her room.

I’m feeling a bit weary myself. I should go and lie down,” Florence said.

“Mom, let me help you,” Naomi quickly offered, stepping forward to take Florence’s arm.

Grabella withdrew her own hand, which had been about to assist, and simply moved aside. “Alright, go ahead.”

For her, the important thing was simply that Florence got her rest.

Arabella, I know you’ve been busy lately too, so I wanted to spare you the trouble and help Mom myself. You don’t mind, do you?” Naomi’s tone was soft, carrying a hint of careful probing

Arabella stepped aside calmly, her expression unreadable. “I don’t mind. Please, go ahead.”

Naomi’s brow furrowed slightly. Watching Arabella’s utterly unperturbed demeanor filled her with an inexplicable irritation.

How could she be so completely unfazed, so detached!

Arabella’s attitude instantly doused flaomi’s sense of triumph like a bucket of ice water,

Seeing her standing still, Arabella raised an eyebrow “Was there something else?”

“Oh, nothing,” Haomi could only reply awkwardly before helping Florence upstairs.

Her earlier sense of victory, her smug satisfaction, vanished in an instant, leaving behind only hollow frustration.

Arabella glanced down at the jewelry box in her hand, a cool, faint smile touching the corner of her lips.

“With taste like that, and she dares claim she studied design,” she murmured dismissively to herself before also heading upstairs.

The next day, the sun was bright and clear.

True to her word, Arabella arrived at the hospital to pick Lucas up for his discharge.
