Ruby glanced at Naomi. Good thing she’s quick. I should have reminded her.
“Frank, will you be staying longer this time?” Naomi asked, her expression hopeful.
“Most likely. I’ve left the gift I brought for you in your room,” Frank said with his usual indulgent tone.
He never returned from a trip without a present for Naomi, and this time was no different.
“Thanks, Frank.” Naomi hugged his arm affectionately, finally feeling a little comforted.
After being hurt by Matthew again and again, and with Arabella taking so much of their parents‘ attention, being near Frank was the only real solace she had left.

“It’s alright, Mom. Work has been lighter lately. I have time to pick up something new,” Naomi replied with a reassuring smile.
“Aunt Florence, don’t worry. Naomi has plenty of energy. Besides, I’ll be with her,” Ruby added cheerfully.
“Alright then. But both of you must be careful,” Florence said, looking at Naomi and Ruby before turning her attention to Arabella.
“Arabella, you must be extra cautious too. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t push yourself, okay?” Florence said, her concern evident.
“I will. Don’t worry–I’ll be careful,” Arabella replied, meeting her mother’s eyes warmly.
