Then, with a faint, icy smile, he followed Arabella out.
Anyone who dared bully his sister would pay–the Macdonalds were no exception.
“What was that supposed to mean?” Carter frowned, staring after Ethan.
Some young punk thought he could threaten him? How naive.
If he weren’t Arabella’s brother, causing a scene like this in Macdonald Villa would have earned him a serious lesson–he wouldn’t have left so easily.
“Carter, that boy is insufferable. Should we call someone to teach him a lesson?” Freya had caught Ethan’s remark.
“Let it go. He’s not worth the trouble. Are you alright?” Carter asked, turning to Freya with
concern.
“I’m fine. But that Arabella–how dare she bring her broke brother here to start trouble! They are never to set foot in this house again,” Freya fumed.
“Agreed. This was her last visit,” Carter assured her.
Edward wanted to protest, to ask why they would ban Arabella from returning. But seeing their anger, and knowing Arabella might not be far yet, he held his tongue. Upsetting them now might only make them pursue her.
If he wanted to see Arabella again, he’d have to find another way.
Just then, Freya noticed Edward had retrieved his phone. “Where did you find that? And why did you call that girl here? What’s so special about her that you still bother with her p>

“That’s my business. Now, all of you–get out. I need to rest,” Edward said flatly, lying back down. He had no interest in facing them.
Not wanting to see another argument between mother and son over Arabella, Carter intervened. “That’s enough. Let Edward rest p>
He gently guided Freya out of the room.
“Get some rest, Edward,” Harper said with false sweetness before following her parents out.
In the hallway, Freya continued complaining about Arabella bringing a stranger into their home and assaulting the staff.
“Dad, you really should teach that Arabella a lesson. The way she acted was unacceptable!” Harper added, fueling the fire.
“I’ll deal with her later,” Carter replied.
Meanwhile, Arabella drove Ethan back to Cloudrise Manor.
“Ethan, I’d rather the family didn’t worry about what happened back there,” she said, glancing at him.
“Don’t worry. My lips are sealed,” Ethan promised.
“That family is unbelievable. You were just trying to help, and not only did they not thank you–they attacked you,” he continued, his voice tight.
“I’m glad I was there. Who knows how much you would’ve had to endure otherwise,” he added, anger simmering beneath his calm tone.
The thought of them mistreating Arabella right in front of him made his blood boil. He could only imagine what she must have endured living with them all those years.
The Macdonalds would pay for this.
“Honestly, aside from Edward, they’ve always been like that. Don’t waste your energy being angry. They’re not worth it,” Arabella said, trying to soothe him.
“You’ve been through a lot all these years,” Ethan said, his eyes softening with sympathy.
“It’s fine. Look at me–I turned out alright, didn’t I?” Arabella replied lightly.
“Don’t feel bad for me. Really, I’m okay.” She drove the rest of the way home in comfortable
silence.

The next morning, Jonathan had just finished getting ready and picked up his phone when at major news alert caught his eye.
One of Meridian District’s prominent business families, the Macdonalds, had filed for bankruptcy overnight.
His brow furrowed. Arabella had just visited them yesterday. Was it a coincidence?
With this on his mind, he headed downstairs.

Seeing Jonathan’s serious expression, Naomi curiously picked up her own phone and scrolled through the news.
When she saw the headline about the Macdonald bankruptcy, confusion flickered in her
eyes.
